A child's life is like a piece of paper on which every person can leave a mark.
On Saturday, May 3rd, 2008 a team of 50 British Police Officers, Officers of the NYPD and members of Team Continuum converge upon a Manhattan Landmark – Central Park.
The plan: for each member to run 36 miles over two consecutive days around the reservoir in the centre of the park.
The purpose: to raise funds for research into a cure for pediatric cancer –
to raise awareness of Neuroblastoma.
Why?
The runners have come together in a unique way because of Jack, the six year old son of two London police officers. Jack has been battling the disease for over three years. Two years of the fight have been in the USA both in New York and currently in Vermont. Jack's individual trial has involved huge amounts of chemotherapy, radiation, surgeries to body and brain, stem cell transplants and experimental treatments. At times the cancer seems to have been quelled, yet never quite beaten. Jack too has never been beaten nor is Jack alone in attempting to overthrow this cancer. Jack is not alone - 360 'siblings' each year are as sorely pressed and equally brave.
Each year about 360 children in the USA and UK (mainly under the age of 5) are diagnosed with the acute form of this cancer. Despite years of research and effort there remains very little hope of survival for most of the kids diagnosed. In recent months research hospitals have signalled new and novel ideas to treat the cancer – methods which may extend their lives, which could also prevent some of the harsh long term side effects of current therapies. But for most of these kids time is running out. We need to find the cure.
"Our children are the world's most valuable resource and its best hope for the future"
John Fitzgerald Kennedy
All research requires money; money which will eventually empower these little boys and girls to become men and women.
"One person can make a difference...... everyone should try." John Fitzgerald Kennedy
WHO CARES
50 police officers from the UK, of all ranks, elected to come to New York and take up the volunteered assistance of the NYPD to try and make a difference. A New York cancer charity – Team Continuum – already familiar with Jack and children like him also stepped up to the plate. Each team member are contributing their time, money and efforts to win your support for children like Jack.

Grace's father Alec personally joined the fight against cancer. On September 10th 2007, five fathers from around the globe took on a grueling adventure in hopes of saving the lives of their children and others affected by Neuroblastoma. The five fathers will began in Sacramento CA and collectively ride 3700 miles, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to Washington DC where they were united with other Neuroblastoma families, showing our strength in numbers ensuring social awareness is gained. This event has the potential to make a difference in so many children's lives. To become a part of this event, to make a donation, or to find out more about the Loneliest Road, please click here.

* If you have an event planned to help all the other children out there that need our support, please send me an email and I will be sure to post it here, thanks!
