About Us
A group of friends and family members established the Grace Oughton Cancer Foundation to support the family and health care needs of Grace. What grew from this group was the realization that the Oughtons are not alone in their struggle. Families all over the country suffer financial hardship as a result of insurance denials, travel expenses, lost wages, and more. In addition to the families’ hardships, pediatric cancer research is grossly under-funded. Fundraisers have stated that families whose children are fighting, or have fought, cancer, raise the vast majority of research funds earmarked for children. So, our foundation has taken on this plight. A plight to support both the families of children fighting neuroblastoma, through direct financial assistance, and to provide grants to the researchers, who are working tirelessly to find an effective way to eradicate this terrible disease.
Here is just one of our stories…
Grace is the young daughter of Alec and Crystal Oughton, a loving couple dedicated to their community, having spent the better part of their adult lives serving others. Alec is a career firefighter and paramedic and Crystal is a registered nurse, who has spent her entire nursing career working the neonatal intensive care unit. Grace also has a 4-year-old brother, Landon, an unsung hero of this battle.
At nineteen months old, Grace Oughton was diagnosed with a rapidly progressing cancer called Neuroblastoma. Because of the rare nature of Grace’s cancer, the best treatment option required her to travel to a specialty center where she underwent chemotherapy and other aggressive treatments. Grace’s initial therapy took place at Children’s Hospital – Boston and the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, Jimmy Fund Clinic. Grace was declared in remission in June of 2006, prior to enduring the first of two stem cell transplants. On February 14th, 2007 the Oughton family was blindsided by the news that Grace’s cancer had returned. They have resumed the fight to save their daughter and are living every parent’s worst nightmare.
The Grace Oughton Cancer Foundation is a registered non-stock corporation with the Commonwealth of Virginia. We are tax exempt and a registered charitable 501(c)3 organization with the IRS. Our Federal Tax ID number is 20-5721036. Thank you for your continued support. |
